Your high-five for Monday 16 July

Five things happening in Wellington tonight.

If it’s not cold enough for you already, the Wellington Ice Rink is operating today and every day until Sunday 5 August from 10:00am to 10:00pm at Odlins Plaza on Taranaki Street Wharf.

If you get moving now you may be able to make it to the 6:15pm one-off Wellington Film Society screening at the Embassy Theatre, Kent Terrace, of 2014 French movie Fidelio: Alice’s Journey, in which a 30-year-old woman engineer toughs it out among an otherwise all-male crew. Memberships can be purchased at the door,

At The Third Eye in Arthur Street, there’s the latest in a creative residency for large ensembles featuring new music by NZ composers: Jazz Aotearoa and the Third Eye present The Arthur Street Loft Orchestra. Tonight from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, it’s the music of Jasmine Lovell Smith and Jake Baxendale, with cinematic themes and reverberant variations for a 10-piece band.

Raw Meat Monday is the capital’s longest running open mic comedy night, every Monday at 8:00pm at The Fringe Bar, Allen Street.

Sadly the visit to the National Library of Helen Zaltzma, producer/presenter of the award-winning podcast The Allusionist, has been postponed due to illness. Ticket refunds are available through Eventfinda.
