Ferries cancelled as severe weather warning continues

Severe southerly gales gusting up to 120kmh in exposed places have caused slips, flooding and ferry cancellations across the Wellington region.

This morning’s 3:30am Interislander sailing of the  Kaiarahi was cancelled, as has its 9:05am sailing from Picton. The 9:00am departure of the Kaitaki from Wellington is still scheduled to take place. Passengers with bookings should call 0800 802 802.

Bluebridge passengers who wish to change their bookings should call 0800 844 844.

East by West ferries cancelled its harbour service Monday afternoon and has no ferries scheduled this morning. Replacement shuttles will depart Days Bay Wharf at  7:45am and 8:45am. Shuttles will also depart Queens Wharf at 8:20am for Wellesley students.

Over 20mm was recorded in Kelburn by MetService over eight hours on Monday, with similar rainfall totals in other areas of Wellington, and heavier falls in the Hutt Valley.

Southerly gales are expected to continue gusting to 120kmh today, with a temperature high of 10 degrees.
