Sun, Sand, Sea & Surf Report – Janurary 9th

Jan 9th 2018

Fine until evening, then cloud increasing. Northerlies developing in the afternoon and becoming strong in the evening.
All beaches are pretty good for swimming today such as Lyall Bay, Oriental Bay and Scorching Bay. As we head into the afternoon the winds pick up a little so if you’re looking for a bit of shelter form the northwesterly we recommend Princess Bay and Island Bay.
The Wellington water temperature is rather cool (15 °C) and the air temperature becomes more warmer as the day goes on.
Surf
Semi clean calm glassy ocean conditions early with only small 1ft+ of lingering SSW lines which should build thru the day. Winds are variable ENE, forecast to rise N offshore thru the morning then stronger in the arvo with strong NNW winds continuing for Thursday.
