Wellington’s men’s representative hockey team the Ricoh Capital Cobras defeated North Harbour 3-2 in a shootout at the final of the 2018 Ford National Hockey League in Newtown on Sunday.

The last time Capital won the Ford NHL was in 2015.
Sebastian Buddle put Capital on the board early, scoring in the third minute.
The Wellington side held the advantage until the final four minutes, when Harbour levelled the score.
The 1-1 tie brought the teams into a nail-biting shootout where both side’s shooters scored two of their five attempts at goal.
Benedict van Woerkman slotted in a sudden-death attempt before his Capital teammate, goalkeeper Kyle Pontifex, swept the ball away from Harbour’s Kalyan Jeram. This clutch defensive play under immense pressure won Wellington the Challenge Shield.
North Harbour were last year’s winners and their women’s side secured the the K Cup after their 2-0 win over Central this afternoon.
Ricoh Capital Women lost 3-2 to Canterbury yesterday morning, placing them sixth in the NHL tournament.
