John Beldham, president of Capital Football since its inception in 2001, died this last Wednesday aged 89.
“John was an extremely active and beloved member of the Football community, spending countless hours being involved with the game,” Capital Football said in a statement.
“John’s continued commitment and contribution to Football in Wellington and his passion and love for the game will forever be remembered.”
Beldham was a member of the Wellington Soccer Association Executive Committee for nearly two decades. He chaired the committee from 1981 to 1993 and again from 1999 to 2000.
He was the first – and only – Capital Football President, from 2001-2018.
A celebration of John’s life will be held in the Kapiti Coast United Clubrooms (aka Raumati Hearts), at Weka Park, Raumati Beach, on Tuesday 25 September at 1.00pm, followed by a private family burial.
