Seven-car crash causes delays for commuters

UPDATE: The crash which forced both southbound lanes to temporarily merge causing significant congestion, has now been cleared. Significant southbound congestion remains and will need time to clear, but traffic will begin to flow from Paekakariki to Pukerua Bay as congestion eases.

EARLIER STORY: Police are warning motorists travelling to Wellington from the Kapiti Coast to expect delays this morning following a crash on State Highway One near Raumati.

A seven-car nose-to-tail crash occurred south of the Raumati on-ramp around 6:00am this morning.

Nobody has been injured in the crash but the southbound lane is partially blocked and is causing significant southbound congestion.

It will take some time to clear, and road users should expect delays of more than 25 minutes in the area.

Police advise motorists to expect additional delays when travelling through the area, on top of usual peak traffic, and to be patient.
