Police training in Karori may include loud bangs

New Zealand Police advise that a training exercise will be held on Monday 13 August at the former Victoria University Teachers College campus, between Donald and Campbell Streets in Karori.

This will take place from 10:00am to 10:00pm, and involve an increased police presence in the area, including officers carrying firearms.

A series of loud bangs may be heard, which should be preceded by three blasts of an air horn.

Members of the public may notice police coming and going from the campus, but are asked to keep away from the area while training is taking place.

Groups of Wellington Police staff have been granted permission to use the campus, which is to set to become a Ryman retirement village, for tactical training until next year. This training involves staff updating their skills with tactical options, including armed scenarios, handling firearms and tasers.

Signs will be posted around the campus indicating that there is an exercise underway at the times that Police are in training.
