New date, in May, for postponed Pride parade

It may be the world’s worst kept secret, but we can now confirm the Wellington International Pride Parade will now be held on Saturday, 11 May. The time of day will be brought forward to the afternoon to accommodate for the shorter daylight hours, with the parade kicking off at 3pm.

The parade route will remain the same, from Courtenay Place, turning into Taranaki Street to the waterfront. Some of the pre-parade entertainment will move to a new time and location and we will update you on that later.

We understand there may be groups that hadn’t previously registered that may now want to do so, so we are reopening registrations and our website will be updated soon for you to submit these.

Any group that has previously registered for 16 March will have their entry automatically carried over to 11 May. If, for some reason your group is no longer able to march in May, please email us at [email protected]

While a bit of rain won’t stop us going ahead on 11 May, if bad weather means we can’t proceed on 11 May, we have a rain day scheduled for Sunday, 12 May.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Ōtautahi | Christchurch. The way that you have stood up and supported each other through such a difficult time is testament to your strength. Kia kaha.

We’d also like to thank our sponsors and supporters, suppliers, Wellington City Council, our parade entrants and the public. Your understanding and support following the postponement of the parade has been simply overwhelming.

It’s now important for us to regroup as a community and demonstrate our Pride with inclusivity, diversity and humanity. We will welcome all who want to show their solidarity in parading together as one.
