Hunter MacDonald swung on the artwork, in a video that went viral on the Internet last October.
The $1000 he has been required to pay will be used for signs to warn people against touching the sculpture.
He was also sentenced to 150 hours community service.
MacDonald broke the $300,000 sculpture in October last year by climbing out to the end of the pole-like structure.
