The Wellington Lions have brought themselves back up to third place in the Mitre 10 Cup rankings with a thumping 49-7 win against Manawatu Turbos.

Wellington immediately scored 10 points in as many minutes and from there the one way traffic continued except for a try from Turbo’s loose forward Brice Henderson.
The windy Palmerston North conditions only allowed Jackson Garden-Bachop to convert two of the Lions’ nine tries.
The Lions are now equal third with Canterbury on the Premiership ladder, with the semi-finals approaching. They will play Tasman next Saturday at Westpac Stadium. Both teams, along with Auckland and Canterbury, have all but secured their places as the top four teams in contention for the Mitre 10 Cup Premiership title, with three weeks remaining.
Earlier in the day, the Wellington Pride demolished Tasman Mako, finishing 88-3.
The win placed the women’s side firmly at the top of the Farah Palmer Cup Championship league.
