Hutt and school bus services unaffected by industrial action, says Metlink

Metlink are reporting no major delays to Hutt Valley bus services this morning, with all school services including Hutt Valley routes running as normal.

Fifty bus drivers on Hutt Valley routes employed by Tranzit began industrial action at 5:00am this morning.

Drivers cut their daily hours to a standard eight-hour day with breaks, protesting what they are calling unlawful and dangerous shifts, and pressuring new service provider Tranzit to negotiate a collective contract.

The Tramways Union, which is representing bus drivers in the Hutt Valley, says their industrial action could continue for weeks.

Metlink reported this afternoon that their goal today was to deliver all services throughout the day, with a focus on school services on the first day of the new school term.

The company is still asking passengers to sign up to a MyMetlink online acount, or check real-time updates at Metlink.org.nz before travel is commenced

The contact centre on 0800 801 700 is also providing up-to-date information on delays and cancellations.

Metlink apologisesd for the ongoing inconvenience to passengers.
