Thursday strike action likely as nurses reject offer

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation has advised that its members have voted to reject the revised offer of employment terms and conditions from District Health Boards across New Zealand.

This means that nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants who are members of the NZNO will likely proceed with nationwide strike action on Thursday.

The strike action will be in the form of a complete withdrawal of labour, from all DHBs for 24 hours from 7:00am on 12 July.

Capital & Coast District Health Board have advised that patient safety and wellbeing remains their highest priority and focus during this time.

The emergency department at Wellington Regional Hospital will remain open throughout the strike, but people are asked to remember that the department is for emergencies only.

Anyone unsure about whether they need ED care should contact their GP or call Healthline (0800 611 116) for free advice from a registered nurse.
