Reports of the leak on the corner of Arawhata and Kāpiti roads were received shortly before 10am Monday and prompted a swift response from Fire and Emergency.

A Stuff reporter at the scene said Kāpiti Rd had been closed for a time, with traffic being diverted around the scene.

Some surrounding roads were also closed, and access to the nearby Coastlands Aquatic Centre was also blocked off to the public.

However, at 10.45am the area was reopened.

A FENZ shift manager was unsure about the incident’s cause, but there had been reports of digging taking place at the site prior to the leak being reported.
