Film Screening with Hanno Leichtmann

Electronic music producer Hanno Leichtmann will present a new video made with original photographic material from the archives of the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music.

Friday, 6 December 2019 from 17:30-18:30 Goethe-Institut New Zealand

Hanno Leichtmann and his colleague, Toby Cornish, created an animated video out of scans and photocopies from an archive compiled over 70 years. Approximately 2000 of the 25,000 images were selected from the period 1950 -1990.

The new arrangement of images are presented as a montage / collage / animation, a mad men-esque journey from the middle of the last century – set mainly in an old hunting chateau, a school on a hill, various indoor sport venues and impressive concert halls.

Nouvelle Aventure was originally presented as a six-channel sound installation at the international “Historage” project in the Museum Mathildenhöhe.

The music is remixed, both a collage and a homage, in a highly psychedelic interaction. This composition was recently released on the Karl Records imprint.

After a short introduction, Hanno Leichtmann will answer your questions – with wine and cheese.
