A free Data Science 2018 Workshop hosted by Chiasma Wellington is being held this morning from 8:00am to 12:00pm for any STEM student looking to broaden their potential career prospects, regardless of year of study or study area. A presentation on the working world of data scientists and analysts featuring guest speakers from PwC and MBIE will be followed by a small ‘coding session’ at PwC, 10 Waterloo Quay.

Tertiary Lives is a week-long public exhibition starting today that celebrates the vital contribution tertiary education makes to life in Aotearoa New Zealand. Hosted by the Tertiary Education Union Te Hautū Kahurangi o Aotearoa, the exhibition is open to the public from 9:00am today above the cafe in Rutherford House of the Victoria University of Wellington at 33 Bunny St, Pipitea. Featuring personal contributions from students and staff, photographs, and interactive exhibits Tertiary Lives tells a story about why it is so important we work together to ensure every New Zealander has access to life-changing learning opportunities wherever they chose to study.

Are you sick of scrambling from one funding round to the next? Would you like your organisation to have a reliable income, but are unsure where to start? Sustainable Funding, hosted by Volunteer Wellington, is a one-day workshop that helps organisations develop a sustainable funding plan. It is packed with practical ideas, information and advice, that include the seven key income streams for non-profit organisations – are you using them all, and if not, how can you get started? Facilitated by Kat Macmillan, who has 15 years leadership experience in the community and voluntary sector, this workshop is one from 9:30am to 4:00pm at St Johns in the City, corner of Willis and Dixon Streets. Cost for Volunteer Wellington members is $20:00 and $30:00 for non-members. Morning and afternoon tea provided, BYO lunch.

Gallery Babes, from 10:30am at City Gallery Wellington, Civic Square, is a free mid-morning art-fix for parents and carers of young babies. Best suited to babies 0–12 months this is a great opportunity to enjoy a tour of the Gallery’s new exhibitions.

Acrylic Pours and Other Acrylic Adventures is a free demonstration from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Gordon Harris Art Supplies, 182 Vivian Street, featuring new acrylic materials and techniques from Europe and America demonstrated by artist Evan Woodruffe, who has over 30 years’ experience of professionally researching artists’ materials. He’ll also demonstrate new brushes that can paint in multiple lines or can paint for metres before a reload, along with the smallest brushes now available to fans of detail. Refreshments served.
