Hunter Macdonald (28), who was charged with wrecking the Len Lye Water Whirler sculpture in October, pleaded guilty to wilful damage in the District Court last week.

The Wellington local claimed to be “bored out of his mind” when he swung on the sculpture, snapping it and injuring himself as he fell into the harbour.
His idiocy was captured on video posted to Facebook.
Macdonald will be sentenced next year.
Insurance will cover the cost of repairing the sculpture, but the cost of reparation is being sought from Macdonald.
