Motorists are advised to delay their travel on State Highway 1 on the Kapiti Coast following a crash this afternoon.
A truck and two cars collided in the northbound lane between Pukerua Bay and Paekakariki.
Traffic has been at a standstill in the area and motorists are being advised to expected lengthy delays.
The NZ Transport Agency has advised at 6:00pm that northbound traffic was re-opened temporarily, but was closed again to help ease some southbound congestion. Once southbound has eased slightly, northbound will re-open again.
Due to a separate crash on Paekakariki Hill Road no detour is currently available.
NZTA is advising motorists to delay their travel both north and southbound due to the current level of congestion, and apologise for any inconvience caused.
Police would like to thank motorists for their patience in advance.
