Some activities tomorrow to make you feel good (and do good).
A dedicated group of Makara community representatives have been learning about climate change, sea level rise and the local area in order to plan for a future with more water. They’ve heard from a range of specialists, shared local knowledge and have shortlisted some options for Makara Beach for the short term, medium term and long term. Now it’s your turn. Drop in and meet the team, hear their views, ask them questions and share feedback. Everyone is welcome to the Makara Community Hall, 366 Makara Road, from 10.00am to noon. Morning tea provided.
HopeWalk Wellington 2018 is a free event hosted by Samaritans Wellington to raise awareness of the devastating effect suicide has on families in the community and to raise awareness of suicide prevention support available. The theme for Mental Health Awareness Week this year is “Let nature in – strengthen your well-being”. What better way to strengthen your well-being than by getting together with family and friends, wearing yellow (the colour of hope) and joining the HopeWalk march to raise awareness for suicide prevention in a natural setting? Meet on Saturday at the Soundshell, Wellington Botanic Gardens, Glenmore Street, at 12.00pm, walking to 3.00pm.
Join Karori Kaitiaki – Kākā to help get some native plants in the ground before the weather gets too dry. Please bring your own gardening gloves and a spade if you have them (spares available) to complete an existing project on the corner of Makara and Allington Roads from 2.00 to 4.00pm. Supervised children are very welcome to join in.
The Aro Valley Community Council have a Site Development General Meeting at 48 Aro Street, Aro Valley from 2.00 to 4.00pm, to discuss the ongoing plans for how to spend substantial WCC funds on the community.
