NZ Civil Defence are running a nationwide test of their Emergency Mobile Alert system between 6.00 and 7.00pm on Sunday 25 November.
In an emergency, these alerts can be really helpful, and the nationwide test is a necessary part of making sure the Emergency Mobile Alert system works well.
The test is sent to cell towers all over New Zealand and Civil Defence expect approximately three million phones are capable of receiving the alert.
Last year Civil Defence received thousands of feedback submissions from people which helped them evaluate and improve the Emergency Mobile Alert system.
Emergency Mobile Alerts are not meant to replace other emergency alerts, or the need to take action after natural warnings.
