The annual weekend event for beer lovers, Beervana, exceeded expectations for its organisers this year. More than 16,000 tickets were sold, over half to people outside Wellington city.
Beervana, a two-day showcase for craft beer and food at Westpac Stadium, is part of Visa Wellington on a Plate, and is now one of the bigger events on the annual capital calendar.
The event featured more than 50 brewers, who brewed more than 350 different beers for the thirsty throng, which included over 500 Australian beer fans.
The festival was started by the Brewers Guild of New Zealand in 2002 as Brew NZ, getting 200 people along to the Wellington Town Hall.
Now run by the Wellington Culinary Events Trust, which also runs VWOAP, it has a regular place at Westpac Stadium. As well as using a bigger capacity venue, the event has pushed the creative boundaries of beer styles, and increased the entertainment options.
Beervana will return to Wellington on 9 and 10 August 2019.
