Over a year after the New Zealand Festival brought Star Wars: A New Hope to Wellington audiences, the NZSO are going on the road for an extended Star Wars Film Concert Series.
The 2019 Live to Picture performances by the NZSO, featuring the music of composer John Williams in tandem with the original two movies in the iconic series, will again be conducted by Hamish McKeich.
Screenings of A New Hope will take place for the first time in Auckland and Christchurch. The two symphonic screenings of A New Hope in Wellington earlier this year were some of the fastest-selling events at the NZ Festival.
Wellington will receive the NZ premiere of a symphonic screening of The Empire Strikes Back, widely acknowledged as the best film in the series.
Concerts featuring that film and A New Hope will be held at Auckland’s Spark Arena in May, with Christchurch’s Horncastle Arena hosting A New Hope in August.
The two Wellington performances of The Empire Strikes Back are both at the TSB Arena on 28 April, from 1:00pm and 6.30pm.
Tickets for all concerts go on sale at 9.00am tomorrow, Friday 7 December.
