Presales go on sale at midday today (general tickets on Monday 23 July) for the eight dates of the annual New Zealand summer tour by Wellington’s most consistently successful independent music group, Fat Freddy’s Drop, including one in hometown Wellington

The eight-piece funky electronic conglomerate who redefined the look, feel and music business model for NZ bands in the early 2000s, headlined a 3000-strong rave last Saturday at the old TVNZ studios at Avalon, Lower Hutt

But they haven’t played a big outdoor gig since their new year’s gig at Petone at the end of 2015.

That will change on Monday 21 January 2019, Wellington Anniversary Day, when Williams Park in Days Bay, Eastbourne, will play host to Fat Freddy’s Drop and special guest from the UK Norman Jay MBE, who will be playing one of his legendary three-hour DJ sets to a crowd of up to 3000.

The concert will follow dates at other new locations in Whangarei, Tauranga, Thames and Auckland (Western Springs), as well as returns to familiar spots in Nelson, Christchurch and Queenstown.

The New Zealand tour comes after a double assault on Europe and the UK in the second half of this year.

Next month, Fat Freddy’s Drop head north to play 11 gigs at festivals and stand-alone concerts, culminating with a headline show at the 10,000-capacity Zitadelle in Berlin. They return there in October and November, for 18 of their biggest headline shows yet, capped by a double-hitter at Brixton Academy in London (the first 5,000 admission show is already sold out).

A single taster for the group’s forthcoming album will be released in digital form this Friday 20 July here: https://ffd.lnk.to/trickledown. ‘Trickle Down’ references the economic principle that wealth trickles down from the 1% to the 99%.

Presale tickets for the New Zealand tour will be available from midday on 19 July from Ticketmaster for all shows nationwide, excluding Christchurch (Dash Tickets) and Queenstown (Eventfinda).

General tickets for all shows are in sale Monday 23rd July.
