A total of 32,783 new homes were consented in the year ended November 2018, up 5.3 percent from the November 2017 year. Auckland drove the increase in new homes consented, followed by Wellington.
“Stand-alone houses accounted for nearly two-thirds of new homes consented in the year ended November,” construction statistics manager Melissa McKenzie said. “We saw a sustained increase in apartments, as well as townhouses, flats, and units, particularly in Auckland.”
In Wellington 2,727 new homes were consented in the year ended November 2018 – up 21 percent on the previous year.
In the Auckland region, 12,800 new homes were consented in the same year, up 19 per cent on the previous year but down slightly from 13,078 in the year ended October 2018.
