Gather your $2 coins, take them out to a participating restaurant or café this month or next, and become part of DINEAID.
Over nine years ago, a small group of caring New Zealand restaurateurs decided to give a helping hand to New Zealanders in need.
Since then, the charitable initiative DINEAID at restaurants and cafés has raised and distributed more than $635,000, with 100 per cent of the money raised helping food banks in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and South Island regions.
Every year during November and December, DINEAID raises money by adding a voluntary donation of just $2 per table to a customer’s restaurant bill, or creating a “DINEAID special” on the menu with $2 from every dish purchased going to DINEAID.
Cafés got on board in 2012, with coin collection boxes appearing on cash desks at cafés throughout New Zealand for bill payers to drop coins in when paying their bill.
If you run a restaurant or a café, why not sign up?
And if you’re a customer, keep an eye out for participating restaurants and cafés in the run up to Christmas.
After all, what’s $2 at the end of a fantastic meal?
