International household hardware chain Bunnings Group has made the welcome announcement that it will back pay staff $11 million as it moves to comply with the Holidays Act.
All leave payments from April 1 2004 to May 31 2018 have been recalculated to identify team members requiring payment and all money owed will be inflated to current value in line with the Consumer Price Index.
The payment affects 12,235 staff members, and follows pressure from the FIRST Union, among others.
Issues with the Holidays Act have affected a number of NZ companies, with a 2016 government report showing more than 24,000 workers in the public and private sector were underpaid holiday pay of up to $1800 each since 2012.
Bunnings NZ has already commenced back payments to current staff.
If you know anyone who worked at Bunnings during this time, tell them to register their claim on the Bunnings website for holiday back pay.
